Corona Virus (2019-nCoV) is a novel coronavirus that was first identified amid an outbreak of respiratory illness cases in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. It was initially reported to the WHO on December 31, 2019. On January 30, 2020, the WHO declared the 2019-nCoV outbreak a global health emergency.
Nepal Government Corona virus Updates(2nd March):
The first case of COVID-19 was reported from Hubei Province of China on 31 December 2019. Till 01 March 2020, a total of 87137 people has been confirmed of COVID-19 and it has taken life of 2977 people including 104 deaths outside China. This disease has spread over 58 countries outside China.
In Nepal COVID-19 Hotline: Public concerns regarding COVID-19 are being addressed via 3 hotlines (9851255839, 9851255837, 9851255834) from 8:00 to 20:00 hrs.
Quarantine Update: Day 16 of Quarantine: All 175 quarantined Nepali citizens at Kharipati, Bhaktapur are apparently healthy. Both samples of 175 quarantined Nepali citizens tested on 16 February 2020 and 29 March 2020 and samples of Seven Health and Hygiene staffs tested on 29 March 2020 were tested negative to COVID-19. After the test result all 18 crew members, 175 quarantined Nepali citizens and seven Health and Hygiene staffs mobilized at the quarantine site have been sent back home with counseling on preventive measures to be taken.
Screening and Surveillance: Temperature of travellers coming from China, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Republic of Korea, Iran, Italy, Japan is being measured through thermal scanner established at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Health desk; temperature measured >100.4 oF are being sent to Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital for further investigation and treatment; People reporting fever, cough or shortness of breath at TIA Health Desk or Teku Hospital are further investigated, treated, counselled and monitored on a regular basis.
Non-contact thermometers are also being used to measure the body temperature of all the travelers travelling via TIA. Liquid Sanitizer Agent Spray is being sprayed over the travelers for disinfection at TIA. Information on COVID-19 is being disseminated in Nepali, English and Chinese language.
Preparedness of Hospitals: Health desk are operational at the main land borders crossing with China, India and at Airports; Hospitals have prepared the Hospital Disaster Preparedness and Response Plan and isolation facilities. Hospitals are also directed to comply with the algorithm and protocol prepared by the Ministry of Health and Population. Dhulikhel Hospital, Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital, Patan Academy of Health Sciences, Shree Birendra Hospital, Bir Hospital, Civil Hospital and Nobel Hospital have came up with protocols and prepared plans for corona virus all the documents can be access from this link.
Preparedness of local host: Local host has planned a dedicated health desk during the event. The health desk will be equipped with the checking the threat and emergency assistance, if required any.
